At this point you can have your helper begin to pump the clutch pedalrepeatedly until no more bubbles can be seen.Ĥ. Be sure your fluid reservoir is topped up with the cap off.ģ. I left the top line connected (the one that feeds from the fluid reservoir to the master), then unhook the bottom line (the one that feeds into the slave cylinder.) so anyways unhook that bottom line then attach a suitable fitting+hose into the hole where the line was and feed the line into a container of brake fluid.Ģ. I could not get the master to bench bleed properly so I chose to bleed it in the vehicle. We spent hours upon hours trying to get the clutch bled properly and I figured I would share my method in hopes that it will help someone.īE ABSOLUTELY SURE to keep the fluid reservoir topped up throughout the entire process otherwise you will introduce more air into the system and restart the whole thing.ġ. Remove the master cylinder from the vise.I have been working on a 2003 Saturn Ion (non turbo) and we replaced a clutch pedal along with master cylinder.Wrap the master cylinder with a clean shop cloth to prevent brake fluid spills. Remove the fittings with the transparent hoses from the master cylinder ports.

Im sure theres a procedure better written than this somewhere (I think I found one on the redline forums), but this is from what I can recall. once you have it full, slowly release the clutch, and watch the fluid to make sure it doesn't go empty and not let any air into the system. once you have it up to pressure, clip the hose back on, push the metal clip, and make sure you have plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir (brake and clutch share fluid). once you have it bleed ready, pump it up a bit (when I did it, I had the needle at 20.whatever the unit of vacuum is.and it gave plenty of pressure). too far, and itll just come out all together. pull it just enough, and itll open the nozzle to be able to bleed it. there is a metal clip to detach, and the clutch hose should be able to unsnap. Have someone floor the clutch and hold it, while having a vacuum pump (oreilly has a mighty vac that works well) attached to the bleeder nozzle. The bleeder nozzle is on the clutch line just before it enters the tranny ( ). This brings back memories when I had to do this from a faulty master cyl and pedal lol.

There are a few threads on how to do this. You will need a vacuum pump to bleed the clutch, as it is vacuum bled.
